The Silver Cable property is a private holding within the Kootenai National Forest. This property is situated less than 1/4 mile from the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness Area in the upper reaches of the Cable Creek drainage.

Mineral patent was issued for the 95.7 acres, consisting of 5 mining claims, in 1893. A mill, bunkhouse, blacksmith shop, and sawmill were erected near the turn of the century.

Records indicate the mill never operated due to insufficient ore. The majority of the mill site was demolished when the property was logged in the 1950's.

The Silver Cable property has sat idle with no development or improvements for the last 100 years.

The tract is situated in a U-shaped glacial valley. The property is linear in shape and lies partly within the Cable Creek riparian stream bottom between 4400 - 4600 foot elevations. Corners of the property extend upslope to steep rugged alpine ridgelines (both to the north and south) and reach elevations around 6200-6600 feet.

The property provides habitat for numerous species of wildlife and recreational opportunities for hiking, camping, berry picking, hunting, and x-country skiing.

The old mining road, which once accessed the Silver Cable property, provides relative easy walking access to the upper reaches of the Cable Creek draining.

This acreage provides some of the best moose hunting in the Kootenai National Forest. This glacial valley has spectacular views of steep, rugged, glaciated ridgelines and cirque head walls.
